Acupuncture

What is acupuncture all about?

Acupuncture was developed in China over 2,000 years ago.  The Chinese developed this medicine by being meticulous observers of nature.  This is where Qi (pronounced chee) was witnessed.  Qi is the vital energy that encompasses all living things.  Health is reached by the free flow of Qi throughout the body.  When there is a disharmony or obstruction of Qi in the body we experience illness, pain or discomfort.  Chinese Medicine uses different modalities to help harmonize the Qi and vital substances of the body to reach health, these include: Acupuncture, Tuina, Qi Gong, Nutritional, Herbs, cupping, gua sha and lifestyle modifications.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by inserting fine, sterile, single-use needles into set points throughout the body.  Each point has specific actions that help the body reach harmony when activated.  The part that makes acupuncture so individualized. is the sequence and combination of a series of points which are created especially for you.

Acupuncture is painless but not void of feeling.  One may experience a heaviness, pull or slight ache at the insertion point.  This is normal and brief and indicates to us that the point has been received.  Sometimes there is no feeling at the insertion point which is ok, too.  For those who are needle-phobic, we can discuss this work within your comfort zone as well as use alternate modalities.
